Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) has as it`s motto "Nothing About Us Without Us" in recognition of the need for disabled people to directly promote the human rights and development of all South Africans with disabilities. Structure:

To be an affective and efficient democratic national assembly of all persons with disabilities which mobilizes us to advocate for our rights for the attainment of equal opportunity o\in an integrated social, political and economic environment.
History:
DPSA was formed in 1984 by disabled people who saw the need for a representative body to plan and implement programmes of benefit to disabled people with a members of 150 self help groups/member organisations, DPSA is the democratic cross-disability umbrella body of organisations of people with disabilities in South Africa, recognised as the National Assembly of Disabled People by Disabled Peoples` International (DPI), which has observer status in the United Nations.
Member organisations are organised into representative leadership structures in each Province called Provincial Development Teams (PDTs) which in turn appoint representatives to the DPSA Council. Day to day management is the responsibility of the Executive Committee, programme staff and provincial development coordinators.
DPSA`s head office is in Cape Town and its nine provincial offices are based in Mpumalanga, Northern Province, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu/Natal, Western Cape, Free State, Northern Cape and North-West. Provincial Development Offices in the Northern Cape and North West Provinces are currently not operational due to lack of funding.
